A poem for my son's 8th birthday
Eli, you’re 8, just like Kobe’s first game When you throw away your trash, keep yelling his name. You draw those Pokemon like the best artist I know... Then take them with you when it’s time to go. I still don’t quite know what Minecraft is But it keeps you quiet, so I mind my biz. For you I’d move mountains, no ifs and or maybes... Today you’re 8, it’s time to go crazy! Octopuses, spiders, and tarantulas too They might got 8 legs, but got nothing on you. The stop sign is cool, 8 sides that’s fa ‘sho But until I say STOP, I want you to GO! 8 notes in an octave, 8 beats in a bar 8 Wonders of the World, both near and far For you, I’d move mountains, I’ve done it before Today you turn 8, there’s much more in store! Remember the time we watched Toy Story? And then found Nemo, Squirt, AND Dory? I have a lil’ secret, I’d seen them 10 times! Just keep swimming, to infinity and beyond! 8 turned sideways, that means forever… 2 circles on top of each other together. For you, I’d move mountains, no matter the size, From 8 'til you’re 80, reach for the skies. In 8 more years, you’ll be getting your license! I’ll teach you to drive, no matter how frightening.. The calmer you are, the better you’ll be There’s more than one way to skin a cat, you’ll see I’ll brag about you to the entire world. But I’m ready to listen when you wanna be heard. For you, I’d move mountains if they stood in your way But for now, you’re 8, let’s just enjoy today.
