If you ever need to move a big ass piano...
Book Talk in ATL, Juneteenth, and what's next for "Home Less in Dallas"
Have you ever tried to push a piano? Like a grand piano. The heavy kind. It’s an interesting exercise, because most of the time (ok let’s just say some times), they have wheels. And the ones with wheels, you’d think, would be easy to move. But sometimes… they ain’t easy to move. Shit still be hard.
But (and I imagine a great many of you reading this have moved something heavy at least once in your life), eventually—once you start moving it— it becomes easier and easier and easier. Especially if you have a friend or two to help along the way.
I used to have to move my grandmother’s grand piano in her sitting room (the one with the couch that you can’t sit on) around every time she wanted to rearrange the place. I know the ropes.
Now, take everything I just said about the things that make moving grand pianos easier, and imagine being asked to move a piano down a hill. Not so bad, huh?
It’s still just as hard to get moving at the start. And just as heavy. And you still may want a few friends to help you. But you know and I know, once it gets rollin’ it’s… well, it’s all downhill from there.
And that’s the thing about orchestrating a book out rollout. It’s not the easiest thing to start, but once you get some friends, and get rollin’, it’s best to keep rollin’ best you can.
With that said, THANK YOU for the support so far. Plenty people have gotten their copies already, and plenty more are in the mail. We’ve had some videos from our friends at The Visual Lyricist, I’ve recorded a podcast with my friend Justin Adu (soon come), and we’re in stores!
We’re rollin’, and I couldn’t do it without my friends. Here’s what’s next:
🍑 Monday in ATL:
We’re having a Book Talk at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs. It’ll be hosted by my friend, and founder of The Journey w/ Blue, Michelle Blue. There’s be signings, pictures, live reading, and a Q&A. Plus popcorn and wine. Best of all? It’s free. Let’s hang.
🗓️ Up through Juneteenth weekend:
Proceeds of every book sold + 100% of DONATIONS will go to supporting the ATL-are unhoused population with our friends from Hope 4 Humanity. Let’s do good by some good people, good people.
🤵🏽♂️ 💃🏽 On Juneteenth weekend:
Grits & Gospel, and our AreYouAnATLien? trivia friends, are partnering with our fundraising friends Friends of Fam for their 2nd Annual Black Parade fundraising gala. We’ll be hosting a special trivia segment during the event, giving away books, and smacking on hors d'oeuvres like they’re going out of style. Join us!
👔 On Fathers Day:
Stay tuned for a special announcement coming from me and my friends at The Village Retail here in Atlanta.
✊🏽 On Juneteenth:
The Home Less in Dallas audio book will be released on Audible. This is great because I love storytelling and talking, but mostly it’s for my friend Phaedra who told me she wasn’t reading a goddamn thing and that I needed to say it (the entire book) with my chest.
🐝 On June 21st:
We’ll be sponsoring an IG LIVE spelling be with my friend Janaye from We Gone be Spl’n. That should be fun because she’s letting me pick some words for the contest. I mean, what cuold pussiobly go wunrg?
Whew… Ok, that’s all for now. If you know me, you know I will not be shy about sending through more updates as they come. Again, thank you all for the support. Let’s keep this thing rollin’…
For Lack of a Wetter Bird, if you ever need to move a grand piano, get you some friends.
